I have a confession. I hate coffee. How do you get through the day, I hear you ask.To be honest, I don't really know. I just know I loathe the taste. However, there are times in your life where you just can't avoid it.
I was out with some friends at Pizza Express for dinner, having a great time. It came to end of the main meal and we all decided whether to order dessert or not. Trying to be kind to my waistline while having something small but sweet, I decided to go for a mini dessert. However, the mini desserts all come with a hot drink. I just wanted the small dessert.
All my friends ordered before me, and I kept rehearsing what I would say in my head. Just mini dessert, no coffee. Just mini dessert, no coffee. But then, my plans all went out the window.
The waitress turned to me and asked what I wanted. I said "mini dessert". She then asked "and which coffee?" I hate to admit, but I panicked. I didn't want the waitress to judge me, so I said the first coffee that would come to my head, "Americano please". The waitress turned away, and all my friends turned to me in confusion. Why had I ordered that??
The Americano arrived, and I pushed it to towards my friend, who kindly took it off my hands.
What I learnt from this particular experience:
Everyone rehearses what they are going to say in their head when it comes to their order. It's normal.
Don't fear being judged by staff. Truth is, they don't care nearly as much as you do about what you order.
